AQHA is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the Manager of Information Technology Projects position with the American Quarter Horse Association. The candidate will work out of the International headquarters located in Amarillo, Texas.


The Manager of Information Technology Projects is responsible for planning, executing, and finalizing projects according to AQHA’s needs and budget. The position will be responsible for acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of the team to deliver projects according to plan.  He or she will also define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle.  The Project Manager helps translate business requirements into technology requirements for inclusion in contracts and/or statements of work (SOW).


  • Create, maintain, and execute project plans to meet changing needs and requirements.

  • Effectively applies our methodology and enforces project standards.

  • Prepares for engagement reviews and quality assurance procedures.

  • Minimizes our exposure and risk on project.

  • Ensures project documents are complete and current.

  • Tracks and reports team hours and expenses on a weekly basis.

  • Maintains awareness of new and emerging technologies and the potential application on client engagements.

  • Sets and manages client expectations.

  • Continually seeks opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships.

  • Builds a knowledge base of AQHA’s business, organization and objectives.


  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a four-year degree (MIS or Technical degree preferred).

  • Have demonstrated corporate project management experience.

  • PMP certification is preferred.

  • Candidates must have excellent organization, communication, Project Management, negotiation and problem solving skills, and a proven understanding of corporate business needs.

  • The role requires both deep project management experience and broad technology knowledge with the ability to facilitate the architecting of solutions by mapping common customer business problems to reusable end-to-end technology solutions.

  • Have demonstrated the ability to engage in senior level business and technology decision maker discussions related to agility, business value, and end to end technology projects.

  • Experience using Agile methodology, and an understanding of software development and quality assurance methodologies.
